Duncan and Miller Glass Co Cloverleaf Ashtray
Today’s Museum Monday treasure from the Museum of American Glass in WV is a Duncan and Miller Glass Company No. 123 Cloverleaf ashtray. It is etched with a bust of George Washington, surrounded by stars and lettering: “AFGWU / 1941.” Duncan made this ashtray for the 1941 convention of the American Flint Glass Workers Union, which was held at the George Washington Hotel in Washington, Pennsylvania, making the choice of our first president an eminently appropriate choice for the decoration. These ashtrays were given as souvenirs to the delegates to the convention. The blank used is the medium size (4 ½”) from a set of three nesting ashtrays.
