Chatham Glass Company Fish

May 27, 2024 | Museum Monday Treasures

Today’s Museum Monday treasure from the Museum of American Glass in WV is a wonderful Chatham Glass Company fish. It is in green and clear with controlled bubbles, signed on the bottom: “Chatham Glass Co. ’98.” It was made by James Holmes and his wife, Deborah Doane. According to the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s website, they design their pieces together and are “inspired by organic forms and their coastal environment.” After holding a number of glass-related positions, including an artist residency at the Royal College of Art in England, Jim Holmes established the Chatham Glass Company with his wife in Chatham, Massachusetts, in 1987. The fish is 9” long and 5” high.
